How to Get Started Selling on Vinted: What You Need to Know Before You List

Don’t Upload Right Away, Build Trust First

One of the most important things to know when you start selling on Vinted is not to upload items the minute you open your account. Vinted uses bots to prevent scammers, which is great, but at the start, these bots don’t know the difference between a scammer and a new seller like you.

My best advice? Spend your first week interacting with the app: like and favourite items for sale. This helps build your profile’s trustworthiness before you start listing your own items.

The Power of Keyword-Rich Titles and Descriptions

Vinted’s algorithm is smart, it curates feeds based on what users search for and interact with. I’ve fallen into the trap of scrolling through endless items tailored just for me! But as a seller, you need to tell Vinted exactly what your item is, the brand, and the occasions or seasons it suits.

For example, if you’re selling a pink floral Reiss dress perfect for a summer wedding guest, your description should say just that “Pink floral Reiss dress, size 8, strapless, perfect for summer wedding guest.” This helps the platform show your item to the right buyers.

How to Take Great Photos That Sell

Listing items on Vinted is simple, but photos really make a difference. I recommend taking plenty of photos, not just one or two. For a top, photograph the front, back, side (especially if there’s detailing), the logo, care label, and any flaws.

Steam your items beforehand and hang them against a natural, non-distracting background, like a door or hook. Clear, honest photos help buyers feel confident about their purchase.

Timing Your Listings for Maximum Visibility

Just like posting on social media, when you list matters. Vinted favours newly listed items, so evenings and weekends tend to be prime times when more buyers are browsing.

One tip is to save your listings as drafts and publish them at these peak times to increase visibility.

Keeping Track and Building Positive Feedback

As a new seller, gaining positive feedback is crucial. Buyers want to know you ship on time, answer questions promptly, and send exactly what you promised.

Keep your items organised in labelled boxes separate from your wardrobe. When shipping, write the courier and customer name on each parcel so you can easily keep track.
